Brief thoughts and no spoilers.
Go and See Philomena while it is still on the big screen. Make a note of it if you are not in the UK. At long last Judy Dench, in a role that uses her full acting potential, enthralls us. So does Steve Coogan. A rich and nuanced dialogue takes us through tragic and comic moods. The developing friendly relationship between an old woman and a middle age man who have different points of view, and the shocking story told with respect and sensitivity make for an exceptional film.
Of course I will see this, both for the topic and for the actors (and from my social work background). I’m scheduled to see it Thursday with a friend whose working life has included
many years with Dr. Barnardo’s, so I suspect that we will have a lot to discuss. Thanks for
your attention to this opportunity. Will return with comments to add to this.
