“Quartet , Heneke’s Amour , Les Invisibles, Epilogue, Memories Look at Me, Happy New Year Grandma, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, A Song for Marion. And I do not mention the remake – why?- of Great Expectations or Frank and Robot. “
I managed to see 3 of the films I mentioned in my previous post about the London Film Festival. Extremely interesting films all three deserve serious consideration. I reported my first impression of Quartet (2012) as the delight of this film overcame me. I will mention briefly my impression of the others until I can view them again.
Happy New Year Grandma (2011) : an awkward mixture of comedy and horror. A film for Alexandra who is an “Honours student completing a thesis on female ageing in both U.S. & British cinema across the blanket genres of horror, comedy and drama.” She blogs on http://excavationsingenre.blogspot.com.au .
Epilogue (2012) is exquisitely realistic in its depiction of an old couple, their personal relationship and their relationship with the state of Israel.
I recommend these films and would welcome my readers’ opinions.
Have made a note of them all, Rina, and hope to see them in due course.
Thank you very much for the recommendation of ‘Happy New Year Grandma’ Rina, much appreciated! Shall have to search it out- it always takes so long for anything to be released in Australia but thankfully there’s always internet order. Best, Alexandra
